User Safety Guidelines

ICON makes it easy to meet, connect, and make new friends. Because meeting people online from virtually anywhere in the world, it is important to remember that chatting with people you don't know could expose you to danger. As a company user safety is our number one priority. On this page you can find some common sense guidelines that you should follow when using ICON:

  • Remember that Avatars aren’t what they seem. Be careful while making new friends. ICON face sleeves allow you to be yourself without exposing any personal information. While it's fun to connect and make new friends, avoid providing any information that could be used to personally identify you.

  • Be safe in your Social Adventure chats. If someone in an Adventure says something that you find offensive, abusive or inappropriate, please report the issues to icon@getready.io. ICON takes abuse reports very seriously and will quickly take action as soon as possible.

  • Don't give away personal information of any kind. ICON strongly recommends you not share any private information to people you do not know personally. ICON is meant to be an anonymous adventure, so let your avatar represent who you are, here you can be anyone! If you come across another user that you find offensive, report it immediately.

  • Think twice about meeting someone in-person. Meeting up in the real world with people you meet online is *not* always a great idea. ICON offers plenty of opportunities to meet your online friends in cool virtual chat rooms. If you choose to meet an online friend in the real world, there are some very important rules to consider:

    • Meet only people you feel you know well, have known for a long time, and only with your parents' knowledge and permission.

    • Meet in a public place, such as a mall or coffee shop.

    • Go with a parent or 18+ sibling or friend, (even if you are an adult yourself).

    • Make sure the person you're meeting is not alone, but coming with a parent/other adult.

  • Be honest about your age. If you are under 13 and pretend to be older, ICON will be forced to remove your account. If you are over 18 and pretend to be younger to contact underage users, ICON will also remove your account. If you are under 18 and pretend to be older to contact older users, ICON will remove your account.

  • No ICON staff member will ever ask for your personal information. Don't fall for any scam that asks for your personal email address, phone number, or home address, especially if it comes to you from someone who claims to be an ICON Staff member. ICON Staff can easily contact you via the app.

  • Be aware of phishing scams. Phishing is a method used by fraudsters to try to get your personal information, such as your username and password, by pretending to be a site you trust.

Tips for Parents & Teens

For teens and adults, ICON can be a great hangout place that allows anyone to safely express themselves and make new friends. As with all things on the internet, we understand that being safe online is a shared responsibility between the service provider, teens and their parents. At ICON, we take teen safety seriously.

As a parent, please consider the following guidelines to help your teens make safe decisions about using ICON and other online communities.

  • Talk to your teens about how they socialize online. ICON allows users to express themselves in the way their avatars look, the way their voice sounds, etc. Talk to your teens about how they represent themselves on ICON.

  • Remind your teens not to lie about their age. ICON members must be 13 years of age or older. We take extra precautions to protect our younger members and we are not able to do so if they do not identify themselves as such. ICON will delete users whom we find to be younger than 13, or those misrepresenting their age.

  • Be aware. ICON is a public space. ICON users can communicate with others and express themselves with various voice and face sleeves. Members shouldn't say anything they wouldn't want the world to know (e.g., your real name, your phone number, address, screens names from other apps, or specific whereabouts) in Social Adventures. Tell your teens they should avoid saying anything in a chat that would make it easy for a stranger to find them, such as their local hangouts, where they go to school, etc.

  • Encourage your teens to report inappropriate behavior. ICON provides users with easy ways to report anything that makes them uncomfortable via our public email icon@getready.io Encourage your teens to use these tools and talk to you about these incidents. Your teens should feel comfortable talking to you about these incidents or reporting them to ICON or the authorities.
